Frequently Asked Questions

If you have a question that you don't see answered here, you might find what you're looking for on our "Illustrated Instructions" page, listed on the left.  If not, please email your question to: info@juststringinalong.com , and I will do my best to post your question and its answer right away.  Thanks!

Q: Is the halter adjustable?

A: No. We do not reccomend adjustment through the Fiador knot, as it is a complicated knot, and loosening it up may make it come undone. The Standard size halter fits anything from a medium-boned Arabian all the way up to Thorobred Hunter/Jumpers - pending on where the noseband rides.  If you need something smaller or larger, please make sure to order the appropriate size.

Q: Where is the halter supposed to fit on my horse's face?

A: This depends on what you intend to do with the horse. If you plan on doing some groundwork and establishing some manners and respect, tie the halter so that the noseband rides on the bony part of their nose, about halfway between their cheek ridge (that sticks out under the eye) and their nostrils. If you plan on tying the horse up, tighten it up so that the noseband rides just below the cheek ridge. If you are putting a bridle on over it and going for a trail ride, loosen it so that the noseband rides about 1"-2" below that cheek ridge, that way the horse has enough room to open it's mouth to accept the bit.

Q: Do I have to register to purchase on-line?

A: No. Just click the "Guest" button when prompted to sign-in or register. Benefits to registering: You get e-mails from us detailing my live store schedule and location details!

Q: Why don't you offer a side-pull & halter, or "haltermore" combination?

A: Quite simply, because it looks crappy for one, and for two it can possibly be dangerous!  Putting rings on the side knots of the noseband to attach reins to (cheapie versions of halter/side-pulls made by others) may seem like a good idea to some, but not me.  In order for a side-pull to work correctly, it has to ride on the correct part of the horse's face, and have the correct amount of tension in order to achieve the response desired - please refer to the CONCHO Bitless Bridle.  If you were to loosen a regular rope halter to where the nose should correctly ride in order to get the response you want, the noseband is WAY too loose, and when you pull on the rein that is attached to the ring in the knot, the halter just slides around your horse's face, most likely up into his eye on the opposite side, which can be dangerous if the horse gets irritated enough to buck or throw you off because of it (they're not as dumb as some people think).  Then again, if you tighten it up enough to where the noseband won't slip around the horse's face, the noseband is too far up on the nose (on some halters, the noseband would be IN the horse's eye because of poor design proporions) to be effective in achieving the desired response when the rein is engaged.  This same idea applies to the "haltermore" idea, where some folks have taken a mecate rein and attached it to the noseband of a rope halter similar to a regular bosal.  When rein pressure is given on a regular bosal, the noseband is stiff enough to not slide around the horse's face - not so with a regular or even a braided noseband on a rope halter, such as my own.  When rein pressure is applied with the "haltermore", the noseband is simply not stiff enough to keep the noseband in place.  My side-pull is designed to stay put when rein pressure is given, without clamping the horse's mouth shut (like the indian hackamore or others of the same general design), and without sliding the noseband halfway around the horse's face.  In case you haven't noticed, I will not make a product that dosen't work like it's supposed to, and I will not make a product that looks like it's been "jury-rigged" or "mickey-moused" (AKA, a piece of $HIT).
